In the contemporary conditions of development of Ukraine the main problem of national revival should be strengthening and elaboration of national educational system promoting formation of international multicultural conscience, dialogue of cultures, and awareness of the difference in thinking and psychology of various nations.
Perception of the world as a unified system of multi-vector forms of existence of cultures, languages, ideas, opinions, and awareness of this variety and unity determine the necessity of educating tolerance, respect for other cultures, religions, outlooks. Thus the priority of common to all people values, humanistic and philosophical dominants advances. Therefore in April, 2005 under the initiative of the University rector academician V. Andrushchenko the Institute of Philosophical Education and Science was founded as an independent educational and scientific structure of the National Pedagogical Dragomanov University.
The employees of the Institute of Philosophical Education and Science are the leading scholars of philosophy and culturology: professors V. Andrushchenko, T. Andrushchenko, V. Bondarenko, I. Bogachevska, Y. Bilchenko, O. Gomilko, L. Dolynska, I. Drobot, V. Yelensky, M. Zakovych, S. Krylova, Yu. Legenky, T. Lysyanska, G. Mylenka, N. Mozgova, G. Mednikova, I. Nemchinov, I. Ostashchuk, T. Rozova, M. Rozumny, O. Uvarkina, Yu. Chornomorets, N. Khamitov, L. Shyryaeva, Yu. Yuhymyk and others. Specialized Scientific councils in philosophy, pedagogy and age psychology, history of Ukraine, theory and history of culture, religious studies, esthetics operate at the Institute.
The Institute holds eight departments, which employ about 135 lecturers, among them 35 doctors of sciences, professors, 65 candidates of sciences, assistant professors. The departments are: social philosophy and philosophy of education, philosophy, culturology, ethics and esthetics, history and philosophy of history, psychology, philosophical anthropology, design and advertisement. The Institute also has successful scientific and research centers and laboratories: Center for the Study of Religions, laboratory Research of the Problems of Pedagogical Ethics and Esthetics, Shaping of Professional and Psychological Culture of the Future Professional, Philosophy for Children, Picture and Painting, cabinet of psychological consultation.
There study more than 500 student in the Institute, acquiring general education in Philosophy, Culturology, Design and specialities of Practical Psychology, Theory and History of Culture, Management of Cultural Projects, Religious Studies, Social Science, Environment Design, Graphic Design, Interior Design.
